Naveen Andrews is Kip, the handsome British Army sapper clearing Italy of mines at the end of World War II. Juliette Binoche is Hana, the French-Canadian nurse who summons him by playing a piano in an abandoned monastery. There she looks after the mysterious “English Patient” (Ralph Fiennes) recovering his memory through flashbacks whilst being questioned by a suspicious and vengeful Willem Dafoe. This luscious adaptation of the famous Michael Ondaatje novel went on to win 9 Academy Awards. Come and enjoy it on the big screen.
“This poetic, evocative film… circles down through layers of mystery until all of the puzzles in the story have been solved, and only the great wound of a doomed love remains.” – Roger Ebert
During the introduction, we will also screen two short films: "Flying Sikhs" by Navdeep Singh Kandola - a documentary about Sikh fighter pilots in WWII; and "The Toy Patient" - a spoof by Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish.
